Government postponed deadline for D1 PPP project

The Government agreed to put back by four months a mid-October deadline for its private partner in the D1 motorway project to secure its part of the funding. The decision came at the request of Transport Minister Lubomir Vazny, who cited the global financial crisis and liquidity problems as reasons.Comprised of French company Bouygues Travaux Publics, Slovak Doprastav and Vahostav, the consortium that won the tender to build sections of the D1 motorway (between Dubna Skala-Turany, Turany-Hubova, Hubova-Ivachnova, Janovce-Jablonov and Fricovce-Svinia) is now expected to secure all the finances required by February 15, 2010.

First Slovak PPP project reached financial close

Yesterday, the first Slovak PPP project, the R1 expressway, reached finacial close. The concessionaire, GRANVIA (made up of VINCI Concessions and Meridiam Infrastructure) has completed the finacial structuring of the 30-year PPP contract, representing a total value of over 1.7 bln. eur. GRANVIA shareholders will contribute 149 mil. eur, EBRD contributes 200 mil. eur and the rest is provided by 12 banks. The project covers financing, construction, operation and maintenance of a 2x2 lane highway with a length of 52 km to the east of Bratislava. The works, which will take 41 months to complete, are in the value of nearly 900 mil. eur. The yearly availability fee will be 125 mil. eur.

The PPP Newsletter is published quarterly in Slovak. The PPP Association informs in it about public-private partnerships in Slovakia as well as abroad. Future of PPPs in Slovakia

Realization of PPP projects in Slovakia in last two years progresses relatively quickly. Like in most countries also here realization started in the area of motorway projects, from which the building-up of the R1 highway made the greatest progress. The situation became complicated by the world financial crisis, which has an influence to the change of conditions for financing, just therefore financing remains the biggest problem while realizing PPP projects.
